2025 vs 2026: When to Buy Last Year's Model

Previous-generation OLEDs at clearance prices are excellent value. The LG C4 at $900-$1,200 delivers 95% of the C5's performance. The Samsung S95D at $1,400-$1,800 is nearly identical to the S95F. If you are on a budget, buying last year's flagship at this year's mid-range price is one of the smartest moves in TV buying.

The best time to buy clearance models is September through November, when retailers clear inventory for new models and Black Friday. You can typically save 30-40% versus launch pricing.

OLED Buying FAQ

Which OLED brand is best?

LG has the widest OLED range and the most HDMI 2.1 ports. Samsung has the best colour volume with QD-OLED. Sony has the best processing. For most buyers, the LG C5 offers the best balance of features and value.

Is the LG G5 worth the premium over the C5?

The G5 is 700 nits brighter (2,800 vs 1,300 nits) and includes the new RGB Tandem panel. If you watch a lot of HDR content or have a moderately bright room, the brightness boost is meaningful. For dark-room viewing, the C5 is 90% of the experience at a much lower price.

Should I wait for the LG C6?

New OLED models typically launch in March-May each year. If you can wait, the C5 will drop in price when the C6 arrives. But the C5 is already excellent, and waiting means months without a new TV.

Is OLED worth the premium over QLED?

For dark-room viewing, gaming, and movie watching, yes. OLED's perfect blacks and infinite contrast are genuine advantages you can see immediately. For bright rooms, the premium is harder to justify since QLED's brightness advantage matters more.
